Follow one complete laundry cycle
Trace the route from arriving dirty laundry to sorting, loading, unloading, drying and returning clean items. A basement laundry layout should support that sequence without repeatedly carrying baskets around furniture. Include the stairs and the people using them.
Separate the working surface from general basement storage. A folding top is less useful if it becomes the only landing place for tools and household supplies. Give those items another destination before adding more furniture.
Keep appliance requirements visible
Measure machines with doors open and allow the manufacturer’s required installation and service clearances. Do not enclose hoses, filters or other access points behind permanent furniture. Coordinate drainage, power and any ventilation with the appropriate installer.

Manage moisture and reset the area
